Svay Rieng Wins Super Cup with Prize to War Victims

PHNOM PENH — Cambodian Premier League champions Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng secured back-to-back victories in the Cambodian Super Cup after defeating Hun Sen Cup champions Phnom Penh Crown 5-3 in a penalty shootout.

The result followed a 2-2 draw in regular time at the Olympic National Stadium on August 3.
Before the 6pm kickoff, all players and the 7,614 spectators observed a moment of silence in a candlelight vigil to honor the souls of soldiers and civilians who died during the Cambodia-Thailand conflict.
The first half saw both teams attacking each other in a thrilling and evenly matched contest filled with ball possession and chances. In the 16th minute, left-back Kim Sokyuth dribbled through Phnom Penh Crown’s defense and delivered a stunning assist to new Ghanaian signing Kwame Peprah, who gave Svay Rieng the 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Phnom Penh Crown came out stronger and found the equalizer in the 67th minute through new Bolivian winger Marcarlo Tellez. However, Peprah struck again in the 87th minute, capitalizing on a long-ball assist from goalkeeper Vireak Dara to restore Svay Rieng’s lead.
The drama continued into stoppage time, as Sa Ty scored a late equalizer in the 90+3rd minute, sending the game into penalties.
In the shootout, Svay Rieng converted all five of their penalties, while Phnom Penh Crown missed one of their four attempts, sealing a 5-3 victory for Svay Rieng and their 2025 Cambodian Super Cup title.
Following their triumph, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng announced that they would donate the entire prize money of 12,000,000 riel ($3,000) to the fund supporting the armed forces and displaced people.
“We would like to inform all Cambodian compatriots that all prize money from winning the 2025 Krud Cambodian Super Cup will be donated to the fund supporting the armed forces and displaced people. We stand united for Cambodia,” the club announced.
This donation comes after Svay Rieng previously contributed 20,000,000 riel ($5,000) to the same cause on July 28. Phnom Penh Crown also donated 20,000,000 riel to the Displacement Support Foundation.
The Cambodian Super Cup has been held five times since its inception in 2017. Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng and Phnom Penh Crown have each won the title twice, while Boeung Ket won it once.
